Chris Stuart (born 1948) is a British journalist, songwriter and radio and television presenter, best known as a presenter of the early breakfast show on BBC Radio 2 between 1988 and 1991. He was also one of the first presenters of BBC Radio Wales.
Stuart was born in Durham and grew up in Birmingham. He read politics, philosophy and economics at New College, Oxford, and following graduating he moved to Wales and began working as a journalist for the Western Mail. He was also an active musician and was a member of the comedy band "Baby Grand".
In 1978 he joined the newly formed BBC Radio Wales and began hosting the stations breakfast show for over a decade. On television Stuart hosted the 1989 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition and also fronted his own chat show on BBC Wales called The Chris Stuart Show. He also was an active songwriter and composed the theme tunes to SuperTed and Sali Mali, both programmes were produced by Calon.
Having become an active presenter, in 1985 Stuart was approached by BBC Radio 2 as stand-in presenter, mainly covering Roger Royle for The Sunday Hour and also for Ray Moore's early breakfast show. When Moore stepped down from the role in 1988, Stuart was invited to present the early breakfast show on a regular basis, he hosted it for three years and when Frances Line became controller in 1990 she swapped Stuart and Ken Bruce round, with Bruce now hosting the early show, Stuart began presenting the late night programme, however this only lasted a year and in 1992 he was replaced by Derek Jameson and his wife.
