Chris Coursey (born November 21, 1954) is the current mayor of Santa Rosa, California, taking office as on December 6, 2016. He has served on the Santa Rosa city council prior to his position as mayor. His vice mayor is Jack Tibbets, the youngest council member in city history.
Coursey attended six different schools before graduating from Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado. He moved to Santa Rosa when he was 25 years old. At that point he had previously lived in twelve cities across five states.
He worked as a daily journalist in Colorado Springs, Colorado, then with the The Press Democrat. He covered crime, government, and politics for The Press Democrat. In 2007, He left his journalist job to work on the Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit, or SMART train project. He was first elected to the council in 2014.
Chris is an avid biker, has four kids, and a wife he lost to cancer in 2010.
