Charles Isherwood is a theater critic best known for his work at The New York Times.
Isherwood obtained his degree from Stanford University.
From 1998 to 2004, he was Chief Theater Critic of Variety Staff. There, he was responsible for reviewing theatre in New York City and all over the U.S. along with supervising the magazine's theatre section. Isherwood replaced former critic Greg Evans.
Isherwood began working for Variety in 1993. Prior, he served as senior editor for both the daily and weekly versions of the publication. Before working for Variety, he wrote for Back Stage West in Los Angeles. From 2004 until his firing in 2017, he worked at the New York Times.
