Central Tapanuli Regency (Tanapuli Tengahis in Indonesia) is a regency in North Sumatra province, Sumatra, Indonesia. It is the seat is Pandan. The regency covers an area of 2,158 km2 and according to the 2010 census it had a population of 310,962; the latest official estimate (for January 2014) is 324,315.
The regency is divided into twenty districts (kecamatan), tabulated below with their 2010 Census population:
Central Tapanuli's beaches are ideal for surfing, although are not as well known as those of Nias Island. The regency has 30 islands and one of the biggest is Marsala Island with 8,000 hectares (1 hour by motorboat from Sibolga) and has a waterfall which directly drops to the sea; around 100 meters from the waterfall drop the water still plain taste and the corals are unique and beautiful. In 1933, the first King Kong film has taken pictures here.
