Caroline Julie Porte Ansell (born 12 January 1971) is a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. She was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Eastbourne in the 2015 general election with a majority of 733.
Ansell was born on 12 January 1971 and is the youngest of four daughters of Scottish parents. Ansell's early education at the Beresford House School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in French from Royal Holloway, University of London. Ansell also studied business at the École supérieure de commerce and later gained a master's degree in Education in 2001. Prior to her political career, she worked as a teacher and qualified for headship in 2008. In the same year, one of her children was diagnosed with a brain tumour which led her to take a sabbatical from teaching. This experience motivated Ansell to pursue a career in politics.
Ansell was a member of Eastbourne Borough Council from 2012 to 2015. In 2015, she was elected as MP for Eastbourne. Ansell was the first female MP to represent the constituency. She was a supporter of Brexit in the 2016 referendum. Ansell is a member of the parliamentary Ecclesiastical Committee, Environmental Audit Select Committee and chairs the 1922 Education Committee.
In April 2017, a 51-year-old factory worker was jailed for four months for posting a death threat directed at Ansell, via social media. The perpetrator had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of "sending via electronic communications a message that was grossly offensive".
Ansell married in 1997; the couple have three children. Her husband, Nicholas, works as her personal assistant.
