Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants is the fourth book in the Captain Underpants series written by Dav Pilkey.
A scientist from New Swissland named Professor Pippy P. Poopypants invents a shrinking machine called the Shrinky-Pig 2000 and an enlarging machine called the Goosy-Grow 4000. He goes to the United States of America to demonstrate how these inventions help the world, using his machines to minimize garbage and increase the world's food supply. Unfortunately, everyone laughs at Professor Poopypants' name instead of taking him seriously.
At Jerome Horwitz Elementary School, the school is going on a field trip to a restaurant-arcade (similar to Chuck E. Cheese's). When George and Harold rearrange the letters of the lunch sign, their principal Mr. Krupp bans them from the field trip and instead demands they clean the teachers' lounge. George and Harold get revenge on Mr. Krupp and the other teachers by re-routing the water system, planting powdered paste on the ceiling fan, and placing Styrofoam in the refrigerator. After the field trip ends, Mr. Krupp and the teachers enter the lounge. Mr. Meaner (the gym teacher) turns on the lights, causing the ceiling fan to spin around with the powder paste falling off. Nobody seemed to notice, and Ms. Ribble (George & Harold's teacher) goes to the sink for a drink of water. The faucet malfunctions and sprays her and the other teachers. The ceiling fan spins faster, and the paste lands and sticks to the teachers. The teachers quickly assume that George and Harold were behind this prank. Ms. Ribble opens the refrigerator and the Styrofoam flies around the room thanks to the ceiling fan, making the situation even worse. Angry and silly-looking, they chase George and Harold around the school. After seeing the teachers running through the school looking like snowmen, the school's science teacher Mr. Fyde decides to retire, thinking he's going insane.
Meanwhile, Professor Poopypants has had no success showing his inventions to the world, and sees an ad in the newspaper to teach at Jerome Horwitz. He applies for the job, thinking that children would be kind and sweet-hearted, but the children soon discover they are no different than his peers. Poopypants manages to get the children interested in science by building a robot machine that allows gerbils to jog alongside their masters. However, this interest is short-lived, as he reveals his middle name to be Pee-Pee, causing the children to start laughing again. Sometime later, Ms. Ribble reads the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. This inspires George and Harold to make a comic book about the Professor inventing an army of gerbil joggers to destroy the world, by being forced to listen to Cher, which destroys the last of Professor Poopypants' credibility with the students and drives him crazy.
