The Cantons of Rojava are the four self-governing regions of the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria. Based on the cantons of Switzerland, the Afrin, Jazira, and Kobanî cantons were first established under the Constitution of Rojava in January 2014. In March 2016, the Shaba region was organized.

The cantons act as the primary sub-division for a "future decentralized system of federal governance in Syria."

Article 7 of the Constitution of Rojava states:

Since the adoption of the Constitution, only the Shahba region has been added to the federation in March 2016.

The YPG has controlled Sheikh Maqsood since 2012, but this territory has never been incorporated as a canton.

In December 2016, Rojava started plans for establishing a local civilian council for Raqqa during an offensive on the city. A Deir Ezzor Military Council was also established for plans after the offensive.
