Canada Foundation for Innovation

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (French: Fondation canadienne pour l'innovation) is a funding body dedicated to furthering technological research infrastructure within Canada. Although created by the Government of Canada, the CFI operates as an independent, non-governmental body.

The mandate of the CFI is "to strengthen the capacity of Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals, and non-profit research institutions to carry out world-class research and technology development that benefits Canadians." The body is governed by a chairperson and 13-person council appointed to three-year terms. The chairperson and five of the council members are appointed by the Governor General of Canada.

CFI has been criticized for being redundant and part of a "convoluted" federal funding apparatus.
