Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) is a privately developed planned community in Tangerang, Banten of the greater Jakarta region in Indonesia. The project started in 1989 under the Suharto government. The ‘New-order’ period of the time was characterised by a strong focus on economic development. The project was initiated in 1984 by a group of private developers. The town is implemented and managed by the holding company BSD PT, which is owned by Simasred, a subsidiary of the Sinar Mas Group, a large industrial conglomerate in Indonesia. BSD City encompasses a total area of approximately 6,000 hectares. Currently one phase with 1400 hectares and 100.000 residents is completed. The homes in the community are designed to be suitable for Indonesia's upper-middle class, in gated neighbourhoods, each with a different theme.
Indonesia Convention Exhibition or ICE is a convention and exhibition centre located at BSD City, which is the biggest convention and exhibition centre in Indonesia. Construction of a Smart Digital City is going on, first phase of which is expected to be completed by 2019.
BSD City is the most ambitious urban planning scheme in Indonesia to combine housing, business and commercial properties.BSD is a complete community, with businesses, schools, shopping malls, hospitals and hotels.
Multimedia Nusantara University is founded by Kompas Gramedia Group,which is located at BSD. Other universities in the development are Swiss German University, International University Liaison Indonesia - IULI and Prasetiya Mulya University. There are secondary level schools in the area. German International School Jakarta also located in the development.
Eka Hospital, Medika Hospital and Omni Hospital are located within the area.
The Breeze is a good place for shopping and eating. There is an Aeon Mall at BSD City.
There are hotels at BSD City such as Santika Hotel, POP!Hotel and Grand Zuri Hotel.
