Brimbank Council dismissal, 2009

On 15 September 2009, the Victorian Minister for Local Government announced that the City of Brimbank council would be sacked, and administrators appointed until November 2012, this followed the Ombudsman's report in May and two reports from the Local Government Inspector.

Following the Ombudsman’s report into the council in May, the Victorian Government accepted all the recommendations in the report appointed Bill Scales as an Inspector of Municipal Administration to monitor the council and a former police detective David Walker as an Inspector of Municipal Administration to investigate potential breaches of the Local Government Act at the council.

The second report from Bill Scales showed a failure of councillors to reform their practices and address issues of probity and misconduct, and in September 2009, the minister announced that the council would be sacked, and administrators appointed.
