Brian Arthur Smith (born 15 August 1943) was the Bishop of Edinburgh in the Scottish Episcopal Church.
Smith was born in Edinburgh and educated at George Heriot's School, Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh (he became a Master of Letters {MLitt} and a Master of Arts {MA}),
Smith was ordained in 1973. He began his ordained ministry with a Curacy at Church of All Saints, Cuddesdon, during which he was also a tutor in doctrine at Ripon College Cuddesdon . From here he became successively Director of Training within the Diocese of Wakefield, the Archdeacon of Craven and the Bishop of Tonbridge before his translation to the episcopal see of Edinburgh.
He retired as Bishop of Edinburgh on Monday, 15 August 2011.
A keen snorkeller and short-wave radio enthusiast, he is married with two daughters.
