Brawl is the name given to several fictional characters in the various Transformers universes. He is sometimes called "Decepticon Brawl" in the toy line for trademark purposes.
Brawl originally appeared as a group of five Decepticons, known as the Combaticons, who could combine to form a larger robot known as Bruticus. As a basic-sized combiner limb, Brawl could function as the arm or leg of any similar combiner Transformer, but he usually became the left leg of Bruticus.
In The Transformers animated series, Brawl was originally a Decepticon criminal whose personality component was extracted by Shockwave. In Starscream's Brigade, he was exiled from the Decepticons after one clash too many with Megatron, and was later one of five personality components recovered by Starscream. In order to create his own loyal troops, Starscream installed the personality components into wrecked World War II battle vehicles left on Guadalcanal, giving rise to the Combaticons and Brawl, who had the alternate mode of a Leopard 1 tank. After a series of attacks on both Autobots and Decepticons, they were defeated by Menasor and exiled to space.
In The Revenge of Bruticus, the Decepticons, no longer under Starscream's command, attempted to conquer Cybertron. They successfully defeated Shockwave's army, but when they attempted to destroy Earth by sending it towards the sun, they were stopped by Optimus Prime, Megatron and Starscream, and ultimately put under Megatron's control.
While Brawl's appearances were mostly as part of the Combaticons, the episode "B.O.T." spotlighted Swindle and Brawl. After a gestalt-on-gestalt battle between Bruticus and Defensor, the Combaticons' combined form was demolished, with only Swindle remaining intact. The ever opportunistic Swindle sold his comrades' parts - much to the fury of Megatron. Megatron recovered all the parts except Brawl's personality component and recreated the Combaticons, fitted with a bomb to give them extra "motivation". Eventually he located Brawl's personality component installed in a high school science project called B.O.T. (which had gone on the rampage due to Brawl's influence). With Brawl's personality components the Combaticons merged into Bruticus, but were stopped by Defensor, forcing them to flee.
