Brad Heald(born 3 March 1983, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) was the bass guitarist in the Australian garage rock band The Vines, current lead guitarist of Sydney band Red Riders and Bass player of Angus Stone project Dope Lemon. He also has played in Australian indy punk bands Dune Rats and Skeggs.
Originally from Cronulla, Sydney, Brad grew up playing piano as he's mother was a classical piano player and teacher. After learning guitar and bass he soon found success after joining the Sydney rock band The Vines. He officially replaced Patrick Matthews, the previous bass guitarist of The Vines, who left during the Annandale Hotel performance in 2004 where Craig Nicholls reportedly kicked a photographer in the head on stage. He joined the band in July, making his first appearance with the band at Splendour in the Grass followed by Reading and Leads festival. Prior to this he was originally in the Sydney local band D'Arcy. His first connection with the band was when he met Ryan Griffiths at a local house party in which D'Arcy played. His debut album with the group, After the release of Melodia in 2008. By November 2008, The Vines' vocalist and lead guitarist, Craig Nicholls, was debilitated by his Asperger's syndrome and the band's tour was cancelled. By December, Heald was performing on lead guitar with Red Riders and in February 2009 started recording their next album.. After Red Riders disbanded, he then went on to play on tour with indy punk band Dune Rats in 2012 of whom he met on tour with The Vines. Brad also made an appearance on bass with the surf punk band Skegss in 2016 at Wonderland Festival in Perth, Western Australia. After relocating to Byron Bay New South Wales in 2015, Brad joined friend Angus Stone on he's solo project Dope Lemon and continues to record and tour performing playing festivals such as Womadelaide, Falls Festival and Splendour in the Grass in 2017. Brad is also known to DJ to open for touring acts such as Ratatat and also perform club sets.
