Bonpara is a paurashava (municipal corporation) in Baraigram Upazila of Natore District in western Bangladesh. It was established in the late 1920s by Christians from Bhawal, a Roman Catholic stronghold to the north of Dhaka, and is one of the oldest Christian communities in the country. In 1940, the Our Lady of Lourdes parish church was consecrated and later, a high school was built.
On 5 June 2016, local Christian Sunil Gomes was hacked to death in Bonpara in an attack claimed by Islamic State. Gomes was killed at his grocery store after Sunday prayers at a local church.
