Blanket on the Ground is the seventh studio album by country singer Billie Jo Spears, released in 1974 on the United Artists label. It reached #4 in the US country charts, with the title track reaching #1 on the Billboard country chart and #78 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Blanket on the Ground” is an example of a country record succeeding in the American charts and subsequently crossing over to the pop listings.
Billie Jo herself had gone through a period of transition since originally recording with United Artists and producer Kelso Herston in the late ‘sixties. This was her first album since 1971 and covers a gamut of songs from her own smash hit to a reworking of “See the Funny Little Clown”, the ballad which marked Bobby Goldsboro’s own initial chart single for United Artists in 1964.
