Bhagawati


Bhagavati is a popular deity in the Indian states of Kerala, karnataka,Goa and Konkan. It can be used to refer any of the Hindu goddesses like Durga, Kannaki, Parvati, Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Kali. In Goa, Bhagavati generally refers to the Mahishasurmardini form of Shakti.

Shrines of these goddesses are referred to as Bhagavati Kshetram in Kerala. The most famous Bhagavati temples in Kerala state are Attukal Temple Kalluvettu Kuzhikkal Bhagavati Kshetram at Karaparamba, Calicut, Chottanikkara Temple, Chettikulangara Devi Temple, Madayi Kavu, Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple, Peroor Kavu Bhagavathi, Kadampuzha Devi Temple, Pisharikavu, Kavaserry Bhagavathi Temple and Mangottu Bhagavathi Temple.Mondaicaud Bhagavathi Temple is located near Kolachal in the western coast of Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, Lokanarkavu (Lokamalayar kavu) temple in Vatakara, Kozhikode District, Kalayamvelli temple, near Vatakara(Kozhikode District).
