The Santa Fe Trail Mountain Route--Bent's New Fort is an area in Bent County, Colorado in the vicinity of Lamar, Colorado which is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It was listed in 2016.
It includes ruins of the foundation of Bent's New Fort. It presumably is located along the Santa Fe Trail Mountain Route a branch of the Santa Fe Trail which is an alternative to the Cimarron Cutoff route.
Bent's New Fort was operated by William Bent from 1853 to 1860. It was then leased to the U.S. Army.
Bent's Old Fort, in what is now Otero County, was destroyed in mysterious circumstances in 1853. Its site is preserved in a National Historic Site.
Bent's New Fort may be associated with Fort Lyon.
