Benny Johnson (journalist)

Benny Arthur Johnson is an American journalist. Johnson grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and attended the University of Iowa. He graduated magna cum laude with a degree in organic chemistry and developmental psychology in 2009.

In 2012, Johnson became an editor at Buzzfeed. After being prompted to look into 500 of Johnson's articles, other editors found over forty instances of plagiarism. Johnson was subsequently fired and apologized for not giving due credit. He then became the digital director at National Review before joining Independent Journal Review as the creative content director in 2015. On March 21, 2017, the company suspended Johnson after deciding that one of his articles did not meet their editorial standards. The article suggested a connection between former President Barack Obama's visit to Hawaii and Judge Derrick Watson's partial blocking of Executive Order 13780.
