Beallsville High School is a public high school in Beallsville, Ohio. It is one of three high schools in the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District. Their nickname is the Blue Devils. Colors are Blue and White The Blue Devils play in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference.
In September 1965, the grade school was opened at the same site. Previously, it was in downtown Beallsville at the Convenient Food Mart site (not the same building). This location held the original Beallsville schools (both elementary and secondary). The elementary school was constructed not only on the same site as the high school, but also connected to it. In this formation a student will enter kindergarten and stay in one facility for the duration of elementary and secondary school.
By 1970, the schoolhouse was filled to capacity. To aid in the growth of the student population, a portable building was brought in for the kindergarten and 4th grade classes in September 1970. This building was still there until March 2011. A new roof was put on the portable building; as well as, a new paint job that was completed in June 2008.
Blue Devil Stadium was built in 1955 after the construction of the high school's addition took its former location. The Blue Devil stadium consists of a baseball field and football field. Field lights were added with only days left for the 1956 football season.
On August 29, 2011, Beallsville High School began its 83rd and final year in the same building. Beallsville High School opened at its previous location in September 1928. The three story section is the original part. In September 1955, an addition opened, this being the 2 story section that is attached to the original structure. This includes: a small library, Home Economics room, two Science Labs, the gymnasium and stage, a lobby, coaching staff's office -- which was the band room until 1965 -- and the locker rooms. The original 1928 gymnasium on the second floor of the original structure was turned into the cafeteria with the original stage acting as the kitchen.
On February 26, 2015, the Switzerland of Ohio School Board voted to close the high school effective 2015-2016 school year, but the ruling was struck down in court, thus keeping the school open for at least another year.
