Barbara G. Stymiest FCA is Chair of the Board of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, and a Corporate Director at BlackBerry, George Weston Limited and Sun Life Financial Inc. She is a member of the board of directors of Sun Life Financial. She served as the Group Head of Strategy, Treasury & Corporate Services at Royal Bank of Canada
Stymiest hails from Toronto, Ontario, Canada and graduated from Richard Ivey School of Business in 1978. She began her accounting career at Ernst & Young in Toronto and became the youngest partner in the firm at age 30.
Stymiest moved to BMO Nesbitt Burns in 1992. She began as an executive vice president and later moved to Chief Financial Officer.
In 1999, Stymiest was named CEO of the Toronto Stock Exchange. The TSX went public during her tenure and its market capitalization grew by 20 per cent.
