The North Territory of Baja California was a federal territory Mexican existing 1931 to 1952, covering the state of Baja California. Historically is the successor to the territory of Baja California with the South Baja California territory

In December 1930, Congress amended Article 43 of the constitution separating the territory of Baja California in two territories: North Territory of Baja California and South Territory of Baja California . The border between the two was defined as the parallel 28 ° north latitude.

Since 1939 several political groups that promoted the conversion of the territory in a state of the Mexican Republic were created. The 15 of November 1951 President Miguel Aleman Valdes sent to Congress a proposed amendment to Articles 43 and 45 of the constitution to transform the North Territory of Baja California in the Free and Sovereign State of Baja California. The decree was approved on December 31 the same year and published in the official journal of the Federation the 16 of January 1952. The last territorial governor of the territory, Alfonso García González, was appointed as provisional governor of the newly created state.
