Bacillus weihenstephanensis is a soil-dwelling, Gram-positive, rod-shaped, beta-hemolytic bacterium. It is differentiated by its psychrotolerant growth (that is, growth can occur at temperatures of 7°C or lower).
Strains of B. weihenstephanensis may carry genes coding for endotoxins generally associated with Bacillus cereus.
