Bøyg

The Bøyg (Norwegian: Bøygen, pron. Norwegian pronunciation: [ˈbøyən]), also referred to as the "Great Bøyg of Etnedal", is a troll in the Scandinavian folklore of Gudbrandsdal and Telemark. Characterized as a giant, slimy serpent, it stands as a hindrance to travelers. The name means 'bend', 'twist' or 'curve'. It appears in the fairy tale of Per Gynt, the basis for Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt.
