The 12961/12962 Mumbai Central Indore Avantika Express (Hindi : अवंतिका एक्सप्रेस is a Superfast express train belonging to Indian Railways that runs between Mumbai Central and Indore in India. It is a daily service. It operates as train number 12961 from Mumbai Central to Indore and as train number 12962 in the reverse direction.
The name Avantika is from 'Avanti', the former name of Ujjain, a historical city located near Indore. This is one of the three superfast train connection between Indore and Mumbai, 1st is Indore Duronto Express and 2nd is Indore–Pune Superfast Express.
The Avantika Express has 1 AC 1st Class cum AC 2 tier, 1 AC 2 tier, 5 AC 3 tier, 12 Sleeper class, 4 General class coaches. At times, it also carries a High Capacity Parcel Van. As with most train services in India, Coach Composition may be amended at the discretion of Indian Railways depending on demand.
It is a daily train & covers the distance of 829 kilometres in 13 hours 55 mins as 12961 Avantika Express (59.57 km/hr) & 13 hours 45 mins as 12962 Avantika Express (60.29 km/hr).
Western Railways completed DC Electric Conversion to AC on 5 February 2012. It is now regularly hauled by a Vadodara based WAP 5 or WAP 4E locomotive.
