Austria selected its entrant for the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 in Tallinn, Estonia by holding a national final, the first time since 1994 that a national final was held. Song.Null.Zwei (English: Song '02) contained 10 participants competing to sing for Austria.
The winner of the contest was Manuel Ortega with the song "Say A Word", and subsequently went on to represent Austria in Tallinn.
The contest was held on 1 March 2002 at the ORF TV Studios in Vienna, hosted by Andi Knoll. The winner was chosen by a mixture of televoting, SMS voting and an internet jury of 2002 people.
On the night of the contest, Ortega sang 3rd, following the United Kingdom and preceding Greece. At the close of the voting, his song had received 26 points, placing 18th in a field of 24.
