The Association for Physical Education (afPE) is a UK organisation supporting the delivery of physical education in schools and in the community. The association was created in 2006 when two UK physical education bodies, PEAUK and BAALPE joined forces.
afPE acts as the voice of physical education, influences developments in physical education, and provides services and resources. It provides support for members and the teaching profession through CPD opportunities, updates, advice, insurance cover and helplines for health and safety and legal advice.
The National College for Continuing Professional Development (NCfCPD) was officially launched at the afPE Conference in Hertfordshire (July 2006) and will play a role in providing leadership for physical education and those who deliver it, raising professional standards and enabling the association to develop accreditation systems to ensure preparation, experience and qualification; to promote safe and ethical delivery; and to share good practice.
It provides a range of bespoke and national CPD activities and resources, regional CPD, coaching and mentoring support and occasional papers. In 2005/6, more than 40,000 teachers benefited from CPD activities.
