Appledore Football Club was established in 1912. After playing for most of their existence in Southwest football, they joined the South Western League in 1978 under the name of "Appledore Football Club"

They spent nearly twenty years in the South Western League, but in 1995 saw the recently formed Devon County League as a more appropriate competition and were accepted as members. In 1998, they reverted to their original name after a request from the Athletic Club.

The club colours are usually orange shirts and Orange shorts, although in some seasons the shirts have been amber or yellow. The club's ground is at Appledore (Marshford). The pitch is railed off on three sides, there is a big clubhouse with a covered standing area attached, and a large car park it also has a big waste ground. The club has won the hospitality award from the Devon County League several times since joining the league.
