Annie Brackett is a fictional character in the Halloween horror franchise. The character was created by screenwriters John Carpenter and Debra Hill. First appearing in Halloween (1978), and its sequel Halloween II (1981), she was portrayed by Nancy Kyes. In the 2007 remake and its sequel, she is portrayed by Danielle Harris, who had previously starred as Jamie Lloyd in Halloween 4 and 5. The character also appears in various novels and comic books of the franchise.
In the films, Annie is presented as one Laurie Strode's best friends and a classmate. On Halloween night, she babysits Lindsey Wallace. She was the first of Laurie's friends to be killed by Michael, with her corpse being place alongside Judith Myers' tombstone. In the remake, Annie's role remains relatively unchanged, though unlike the original, while Michael does attack her and kill her boyfriend inside the Wallace's house, she manages to survive the attack. In the sequel, Annie's relationship with Laurie over their shared trauma is explored into greater detail.
The character is notable, along with Lynda Van der Klok, for having unintentionally created a trend in horror movies where female characters that participate in smoking, premarital sex or appear either nude or in their underwear, get killed off.
In the original Halloween, Annie was planning on meeting with her boyfriend Paul. While Annie was babysitting Lindsey, she spilled popcorn butter all over her shirt and had to take it to the laundry room, which was separate from the rest of the house. In a memorable and suspenseful scene, Michael locks her in the laundry room without her knowing that he is there. She gets stuck in the window while trying to get out and is helped by Lindsay who went outside to tell her Paul called. When she is about to leave, she realizes she forgot her keys to the car. While she is off getting her keys, Michael breaks into the car. When she comes back, she unintentionally opens the door and gets in. Annie then realizes that the doors were locked. But it is too late. Michael sits up in the backseat and strangles her, before sliting her throat, killing her. Her corpse is later seen sprawled out on a bed with the headstone of Judith Myers, Michael's murdered sister.
