Anna Politkovskaya Award

The Anna Politkovskaya Award (French: Prix Anna Politkovskaya) is a prize to remember and honor the journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who was killed in Moscow in the entrance hall to her apartment block on 7th October 2006 in order to silence her courageous reporting about the atrocities against civilians during the war in Chechnya. The award is presented annually by Reach All Women in War (RAW in WAR) and honours women human rights defenders from war and conflict zones around the world. For more information on RAW in WAR and the award, visit: www.rawinwar.org

The human rights organisation Reach All Women in War (RAW in WAR), which focuses on supporting women human rights defenders in war and conflict, announced in 2007 that they would start the award in Politkovskaya's honor. The award recognizes "a woman human rights defender from a conflict zone in the world who, like Anna, stands up for the victims of this conflict, often at great personal risk".
