Andrew Russel


Andrew Russel (June 17, 1856 – November 22, 1934) was an American politician and businessman.

Born in Jacksonville, Illinois, Russel went to Illinois College. He was in the banking business and was vice president of Ayers National Bank in Jacksonville, Illinois. Russel was a Republican. Russel served as chairman of the Illinois Board of Pardons from 1901 to 1906. Russel then served as Illinois Treasurer from 1907 to 1909 and 1915 to 1917. He then served as Illinois Auditor of Public Accounts from 1917 to 1925.

In 1932 Russel, President of Ayers Bank in Jacksonville, IL was indicted and convicted of violating the National Banking Act; he was sentenced to the federal detention farm in Milan, Michigan for eighteen months where he died at the federal detention farm in 1934.
