Andrew Garrett (explorer)


Andrew Garrett (1823–1887), was an American explorer, naturalist and illustrator.

Garret specialised in malacology and ichthyology. He spent much of his life in the South Seas. Between 1861 and 1885 he was employed as a collector by the Museum Godeffroy in Hamburg. He also undertook illustrations for the works of another American malacologist William Harper Pease.

This work was first published in parts by the Museum Godeffroy (Fische der Südsee, beschrieben und redigirt von Albert C. L. G. Günther A. C. L. G. Günther. Hefts I-IX in Bands I-III. As: J. Mus. Godeffroy Hefts III, VI, IX, XI, XIII, XV, XVI and XVII in Bands II, IV, VI.)

Collection of 20 watercolors of slugs by Andrew Garrett from 1863-1879 is in Academy of Natural Sciences.
