American Association for Hispanics in Higher Education

The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE)[1] addresses issues and concerns affecting Hispanics, particularly those related to higher education. Despite being the largest ethnic minority population and a major driver of overall population growth in the U.S.,[2] Hispanics remain underrepresented in undergraduate and graduate enrollments, graduation rates, faculty positions (especially in the tenure-track and senior-level ranks),[3] and in higher education administration.

To effect change in American higher education, AAHHE is committed to:

To achieve these goals, AAHHE has a variety of initiatives and programs, including its annual conference[4] which features the Tomás Rivera Lecture[5] and its Awards Luncheon[6] to honor Hispanics in higher education and national leaders. AAHHE also sponsors a Latino/a Graduate Fellows Program[7]; an Outstanding Dissertation Competition[8] in partnership with the Educational Testing Service; the Caminos Thesis Competition in Food and Agricultural Sciences[9] in partnership with Texas State University; and the New Leadership Academy[10][11] in partnership with the National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good[12].
