Alterans

The Alterans are a fictional race in the Stargate universe that have been portrayed as nearly identical to humans, or, having ascended into a state of pure energy. In the timeframe of the television shows, the Alterans are politically divided into two groups; one known primarily as the Ori, and the other known as the Ancients (Stargate SG-1), the Ancestors (Atlantis), and the Lanteans (Atlantis). The alterans are one of the oldest sentient races known in the stargate universe, and are also considered to be the most technically advanced race there is.
