Khan's fourth single "Memories" also received acclaim. In 2016 Khan marked his Coke Studio debut as a featured artist in season 9, as a part team Jaffer Zaidi.
Ali started his career in 1990 when he performed at school's various functions and concerts. However, he was noted when he gain recognition as a part of 90's boy band The Vibes. In 2000, Ali released his first single "Surmai Ankhon Mein" as a solo artist that was well received by critics. With the hiatus of almost four years Ali released his second single "Saathiya" that earned him widespread acclaim and recognition. Song tops many charts and received three nominations at The Musik Awards 2007. In an interview Khan said, "I produced 'Saathiya' overnight, sitting in the studio at my place, i never thought the song would be such a hit and the positive response gave me a lot of confidence that I could create my own music." After the success of song Khan signed a INR 37.5 million three-album deal with Tips Records in 2007, and signed Memorandum of Understanding so he could produced his albums with Pakistani artists. Khan said, "I saw Atif Aslam's talent get wasted when, in my opinion, he produced below-average music for the album Doorie with Indian producers. Therefore, I decided to sign an MOU which would allow me to take time in compiling the album for worldwide release." But countries political condition becomes worse with 2008 Mumbai attacks, next in line of release after Ahmed Jahanzeb album, the studio stopped releasing albums for Pakistanis. Ali explained, "They released Ahmed Jehanzaib's and Atif Aslam's albums because those were already in-process and it was relatively easier to defend their case. I believe it was an understandable move by Tips due to the volatile situation at that time, with many Pakistani artists being kicked out."
