Alderano Cybo

Alderano Cybo (sometimes Alderano Cibo or Alderano Cybo-Malaspina) (16 July 1613 – 22 July 1700) was an Italian Catholic Cardinal.

Cybo was born 16 July 1613 in Genoa and went to Rome at an early age as prelate to Pope Urban VIII.

On 6 March 1645, Cybo was elevated to Cardinal by Pope Innocent X and was appointed Cardinal-Priest of Santa Pudenziana. In 1656 he was appointed Bishop of Jesi; a position he held until he resigned in 1671.

He participated in the papal conclaves of 1655, 1667, 1669–1670 and 1676. Cybo was appointed Dean of the College of Cardinals in 1687 and served until his death. As Dean presided over the Papal conclave of 1689 and the conclave of 1691.

Between 1676 and 1689, Cybo was appointed Cardinal Secretary of State. Cybo died on 22 July 1700 in Rome and was buried at the Santa Maria del Popolo in the Cybo Chapel which he radically rebuilt to glorify the achievements of his family.
