Al-Ash'ath ibn Qays


Al-Ash'ath ibn Qays(d. 40 AH (about 661 CE)) was the chief of Kindah tribe. In earlier life he led an expedition against the tribe of Murād, who had murdered his father, but was taken prisoner and had to pay 3000 camels for his ransom. Later, he became the leader of Kindah in Kufah and appointed by Uthman, third Muslim Caliph, as the governor of Azerbaijan and his daughter was married to Uthman's eldest son. He was the commander of the right wing of Ali's army at the Battle of Siffin.
