The Akuapim South Municipal District is one of the twenty-one (21) districts of the Eastern Region of south Ghana. Its capital is Nsawam. The district was upgraded from an ordinary district to a municipality in February 2008.
Akuapim South Municipality lies in the Southeastern part of the Eastern region. It borders Suhum-Kraboa Coaltar in the northwest, and Akuapim North District in the northeast. It covers an area of 440 km2.
It has an undulating topography with two main ecological zones namely the moist semi-deciduous forest and coastal savannah grassland, with the district dependent on the river Densu for water supply at the Akuapim South municipal water treatment plant.
