A Son Unique is the third and final studio album by Ol' Dirty Bastard. It was supposed to be released after ODB's death, but was eventually shelved. It was meant to be distributed by the Dame Dash Music Group. However, he was dropped from the label and the album's release was canceled. Now, it remains as a digital download. Promo versions of this CD also became available in secondary market.
A Son Unique was originally to be released on August 9, 2005, but was subject to numerous delays. It was going to be released on November 7, 2006 to commemorate the anniversary of ODB's death, which occurred on November 13, 2004, but was pushed back again. On the day of its planned release, A Son Unique was made available on iTunes. The release was eventually cancelled by ODB's label, Roc-a-Fella Records. The album was finally going to be released in November 2009 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of ODB's death, but eventually got delayed again.
Before releasing A Son Unique, ODB changed his stage name from Ol' Dirty Bastard to Dirt McGirt. The working title for the album was Dirt McGirt.
