AS Viganello, also known as Viganello Basket was a Swiss men's and women's professional basketball club based in the city of Viganello. The club was played for several years in the and among its successes is 1 championship and 2 cups of Switzerland.
AS Viganello began as a women's team in 1942, in the village of Ticino (now district of the city of Lugano). In 1943, it also adds the men's team, which manages to stand out in a few years. These were the golden years of the Federal Lugano, the Pregassona Basket, Lugano Molino Nuovo and Viganello. Just Viganello, thanks to the arrival of important players such as Ken Brady, John Fultz and Charlie Yelverton, the men's team begins to stand tall, being able to achieve important goals. In fact, in 1977 Viganello get to play the final of the Swiss Cup against rivals-Pregassona neighbors. It is played in an ice rink Mezzovico packed to the limit of its possibilities (4000 spectators). It was a very balanced game play with extra time: Viganello even was unable to take the lead, finally win 107-103. The first trophy will add another Swiss Cup and the victory of the National League A, both in 1980. In 1981, AS Viganello and SP Federal (Viganello) included as a single team called "PV Lugano", from which derive the current Lugano Basketball Association. The current "Viganello Lugano Basketball Association" is now a new company, a descendant of Viganello Basketball, and is affiliated with the SwissBasketball: has a team Chicks, a propaganda section and a Second Division team. In 2003, the AB Viganello ceded the rights to play in the National League under the name Association Basket Lugano Tigers.
