The ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra is a Philippine broadcast orchestra based in Manila and is operated by ABS-CBN. The orchestra was founded in 2012, Gerard Salonga served as the orchestra's conductor and musical director. It is a joint venture of ABS-CBN and First Philippine Holdings Corporation, both under the portfolio of Lopez Holdings Corporation. The orchestra consists of 40 instrumentalists. Famous Filipino composer and conductor Ryan Cayabyab lauds the orchestra for its smooth and beautiful music.
Its official debut was on July 20, 2012 on its concert at the Dolphy theater. The orchestra played some classical pieces and well-known soundtracks from Philippine films in the event. Its first major public debut was on the "Icons at the Arena” concert at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on July 16, 2012. The orchestra played some of the most recognized film scores of the American composer John Williams in its first solo concert, "The Magic of John Williams" on September 2, 2012 at the Meralco Theater.
Reviews for the concert was generally positive. Norman Sison of the ABS-CBN News wrote "It was a good ending, just like in the movies."
In 2012, the orchestra guested on the hit Philippine television drama Walang Hanggan.
In Christmas 2012, the orchestra performed a concert at Rockwell Tent.
In 2013, due to popular demand, the orchestra will do a repeat of their concert "The Magic of John Williams" on February 23 at the Meralco Theatre.
