The Battlefield District is a district of the Virginia High School League which consists of schools in Fredericksburg and surrounding area. Most of the schools in the district are in Spotsylvania County, which is one of the fastest-growing counties in Virginia. The district is named for the Civil War battlefields around Fredericksburg.
The schools in the Battlefield District compete in 3A and 4A. Courtland, Spotsylvania, and James Monroe won multiple football state titles during the 1980s and 1990s.
In 2007, Riverbend High School left the Battlefield District and joined the AAA Commonwealth District.
In the fall of 2008, Culpeper's new Eastern View High School joined the Battlefield District. In the fall of 2009, Culpeper County High School rejoined the Battlefield District.
In 2013, Culpeper County High School and Eastern View High School left the Battlefield District and joined the AA Evergreen District. Since 2013, the district is only used for the regular season.
