"8 Days of Christmas" is a song by American girl group Destiny's Child, from their same-titled Christmas album (2001). Written by band members Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland along with Errol McCalla, Jr., who handled its production, it is a Christmas-themed song with heavy R&B and dance pop elements. Released as a promotional single in support of its parent album, "8 Days of Christmas" was first released in November 2000 on the re-issue of the band's The Writing's on the Wall (1999) and the CD single of their number-one single "Independent Women".
The song is based on "The Twelve Days of Christmas", but the "8 Days" in the title is a reference to Hanukkah, but the holiday is never mentioned in the song. Knowles stated during the "8 Days of Christmas" video premiere at 106 & Park in Fall 2001: "Actually we wrote the song two years ago, when we went in the studio to do some Christmas something. That's what started the idea of doing a Christmas album."
A video was filmed for "8 Days of Christmas" and was released in the winter of 2001. It was directed by Sanaa Hamri. All 3 members appear in Santa-like clothing at a toy store on a snowy day. Throughout the video the group shops for various gifts and in between cuts, Knowles rides on a carousel. At the end of the video, many children begin rushing into the toy store where the group gives out gifts.
The music video is featured on the DualDisc edition of the album 8 Days of Christmas.
