The 82nd Cavalry Regiment is a Regiment in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Originally 1-82 Cavalry was a TDA squadron headquarters of 15 personnel with ADCON (administrative control) responsibilities over three independent Brigade Reconnaissance Troops (BRTs) - E, F, and G, respectively. Each troop was aligned with separate brigades. E Troop with the 41st IBCT (Oregon ARNG), F Troop with the 29th IBCT (Hawaii ARNG), and G Troop with 116th ACR (Idaho ARNG).
G Troop deployed to Iraq in 2004 and reassigned to the 1/163rd Infantry Unit out of Montana in October, 2004. While serving in Iraq the Unit was awarded the Valorous Unit Citation Award:

For extraordinary heroism in action against an armed enemy. During the period 15 February 2005 to 30 October 2005, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 163d Infantry Regiment conducted security and counter-insurgency operations in Al-Haywejah, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 163d Infantry Regiment established the standard for synchronizing battle operating systems which enabled the Task Force to defeat Anti-Iraqi Forces and maintain control of the Al-Haywejah district. Their ability to operate as a combined arms team, mass combat systems, and disrupt insurgent activity helped create a stable environment an& advance the future prospects for the Iraqi people. Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 163rd Infantry Regiment's outstanding performance of duty is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflects distinct credit upon the unit, and the United States Army.
F Troop (BRT), 82nd Cavalry Regiment deployed as Brigade Reconnaissance Troop under 29th Brigade Combat Team (Hawaii ARNG) during Operation Iraqi Freedom III, 2005-2006. The Troop conducted operations in the vicinity of Balad, Iraq throughout this period.
In 2007, the 41st IBCT underwent transformation deactivating 1-162 IN and standing up 1-82 CAV as a full RSTA Squadron with elements from the TDA Hq, three BRTs, and 1-162 IN.
In 2009-2010, 1-82 CAV deployed to Iraq as a complete Recon Squadron responsible for three separate missions in Baghdad. One, the Iraq Joint Visitor Bureau Headquarters and Security. Two, Camp Victory Base Complex Security. Three, Convoy Security For all logistical convoys supporting the FOBs throughout the Baghdad metropolitan area.
