79th Rifle Corps

The 79th Rifle Corps was a tactical headquarters of the Red Army in World War II. The corps appears on the Soviet order of battle in August 1943 as a command with no troops assigned, and subordinated to the Urals Military District. Subsequently, the headquarters spent time with the 20th and 21st Armies before being subordinated for the rest of the war to the 3rd Shock Army.

On May 1, 1945, the 79th Rifle Corps was the superior headquarters for the 150th, 171st, and 207th Rifle Divisions. The 150th Rifle Division was among those units that stormed the Reichstag.

The 79th Rifle Corps was inactivated after the war.
