The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification process will determine the 31 out of 32 teams that will participate at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The continental championships will no longer belong to the qualification system for the World Cup. Instead, two rounds of continental qualifying tournaments will be held over two years in a home-and-away format.
The first round of the qualifiers will be held in late 2017 and early 2018. The Americas, Asia / Oceania and Africa qualifiers will feature 16 teams each, whereas Europe will have 32 teams. Division A teams will be split in groups of four, to be held in a home-and-away round-robin. The top three teams in each groups will advance to round two, and last placed teams will play the best Division B teams to qualify for the next season's Division A.
Round two of the World Cup qualifiers will be held in late 2018 and early 2019. Teams will be split in groups of six, totaling four groups in Europe and two in the other qualifiers. Teams will carry over the points from round one, and face another three teams again in a home-and-away round-robin. The best teams in each group will qualify for the World Cup.
Starting in 2019, no wild card qualification will be held, and the Olympic champions will not directly qualify to the World Cup.
The draw for the qualifiers was held on 7 May 2017 in Guangzhou, China.
Presently, 15 of the 16 berths in Division A have been filled, with 2 berths allocated to the North American zone, 7 berths to the Central American and Caribbean zone via 2016 Centrobasket, and 7 berths to the South American zone via the 2016 South American Championship. The 16 teams that have filled these berths also include the 12 teams that have qualified for the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup, pending the eligibility of all member associations.
In order to determine the last national team in Division A, a tournament took place in July 2017, where the highest-placed teams entered Division A, while the other team entered Division B and eliminated from 2019 Basketball World Cup contention. The two participating teams are the 8th place teams in the Centrobasket and the South American Championship in 2016.
