The 2017 Cork Senior Football Championship is the 129th edition of the Cork GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Cork, Ireland. The tournament consists of 26 teams (20 clubs and 6 of the 8 divisional sides) with the winner going on to represent Cork in the Munster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship has a back-door format for the first three rounds before proceeding to a knock-out format. Generally, any team to lose two/three matches will be knocked out of the championship.
Carbery Rangers were the defending champions after they defeated Ballincollig after in the previous years final.
Should Clyda Rovers or St. Nicholas' faile to win a match this year they will be demoted to the 2018 P.I.F.C. Now a club will only be demoted if they fail to register a win in two consecutive years or two seasons out of three.
This was Kiskeam's debut in the senior grade after claiming the 2016 Premier Intermediate Football Championship title. The club were founded in 1945 and have never competed in the top-flight previously.
Divisional Sides:
The following teams have changed division since the 2016 championship season.
Promoted from P.I.F.C.
Relegated to P.I.F.C.
4 teams from a random draw play in this round. The 2 winners progress to Round 1 while the 2 losers go on to Round 2B.
The 2 Preliminary Round winners along with the remaining 22 teams play each other in this round. The 12 winners enter Round 2A while the 12 losers enter Round 2B.
The 12 winners from Round 1 play against each other. The 6 winners progress to Round 4 while the 6 losers enter Round 3.
The 12 losers from Round 1 and the 2 Preliminary Round losers play against each other. Teams which have met in previous rounds can't meet in this round. The 7 winners enter Round 3. The 7 losers exit the championship (only club teams who lose in this round enter a Relegation Play Off as divisional sides can not be relegated. If the Preliminary Round winning teams, subsequently lose their Round 1 games and their Round 2B games, having already won a game in the championship, they will not be required to play off with the losers of Round 2B to determine the lowest teams).
