The 2017 Cleveland Indians season will be the 117th season for the franchise. It will be the fifth season under the leadership of manager Terry Francona and second under general manager Mike Chernoff. The team enters as the defending American League champion and World Series runner-up. The Indians will play all of their home games at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
On January 5, 2017, Edwin Encarnación signed a three-year contract with the Indians worth $60 million. The deal includes a club option for the 2020 season worth an additional $25 million, with a $5 million buyout clause.
