The 2017–18 UMass Minutemen basketball team represented the University of Massachusetts Amherst during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Minutemen, will led by first-year head coach Matt McCall, who will play their home games at the William D. Mullins Memorial Center in Amherst, Massachusetts as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The Minutemen finished the 2016–17 season 15-18 , (4-14) in A-10 play to finish in a twelfth place. They defeated Saint Josephs in the first round of the A-10 Tournament to advance to the second round where they lost to St. Bonaventure.

Head coach Derek Kellogg was fired hours after losing to St. Bonaventure in the second round of the A10 conference tournament. Chosen to replace Kellogg initially was Pat Kelsey of Winthrop. He then asked UMass to relieve him 30 minutes before being introduced as head coach.

On March 28 2017; Chattnooga's head coach Matt McCall was announced officially to become the new UMass head coach.
