The 2017–18 Southampton F.C. season is the club's ongoing 19th season in the Premier League and their 41st in the top division of English football. In addition to the Premier League, the club will also compete in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. The season is the club's first with manager Mauricio Pellegrino, who replaced the departed Claude Puel after one season in charge on 23 June 2017. As of 20 August 2017, Southampton are sixth in the Premier League table, having won one and drawn one of their first two matches of the season. They have also been drawn in the second round of the EFL Cup against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Following the end of the 2016–17 season, Southampton released Uruguayan centre-back Martín Cáceres, Welsh winger Lloyd Isgrove, Curaçaoan right-back Cuco Martina and young Scottish winger Harley Willard. The club also sold defender Jason McCarthy to Barnsley, and striker Jay Rodriguez to West Bromwich Albion.Harrison Reed was sent out on loan to Norwich City for the full season, young goalkeeper Harry Lewis was loaned out to Scottish club Dundee United for the campaign, striker Ryan Seager joined Milton Keynes Dons for the season, and Olufela Olomola joined Yeovil Town on loan until January.
