The 2017–18 Indiana Pacers season will be Indiana's 51st season as a franchise and 42nd season in the NBA.
For the first time since 2010, Paul George will not be on the roster as he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the off-season.
For the Pacers' first two picks in the draft, both T. J. Leaf and Ike Anigbogu were both considered first round picks of the draft that were also teammates in their sole seasons at UCLA. Leaf was the starting power forward of the group that lead the team in points scored (16.3 points per game), as well as earning 8.2 rebounds 2.4 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game as a starting power forward, while also being named a member of the All-Pac-12 First Team and All-Pac-12 Freshman Team. Anigbogu, on the other hand, was a backup center that averaged 4.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 13 minutes of action per game at UCLA, yet was hailed as a potential first round pick for his athleticism and defensive capabilities; the reason why he got shot down to the later half of the second round was because of a knee injury he had during, funnily enough, a Pacers pre-draft workout. As for their last pick in the draft, the Pacers selected Edmond Sumner, a point guard who was also rehabiliting himself from a knee injury during the NBA draft process. Sumner was considered a leading point guard at Xavier University and before he went down in a January 2017 win against St. John's University in his junior season, he helped lead the team by averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game with the Musketeers. Unlike both T. J. and Ike, however, Edmond signed himself a two-way contract with the Pacers, which made him the first ever NBA draft pick to sign such a deal.
